Antics counts active reading, not how long a tab happened to stay open. Timing pauses when a tab is idle or hidden.

Idle and hidden pause

The tracker watches visibility and interaction on the current page. When the tab is hidden, or when the reader goes idle, the clock for attention evidence stops. When the tab is visible again and the reader is active, timing resumes.

On hide or close, the tracker sends a session-end beacon with visible time, idle time, hidden time, and compact interaction counts. That is what the dashboard uses for reading time. A pageview from a server log has no browser session-end signal, so it can show traffic without an attention score.

Antics Attention and raw duration

The overview card labeled Antics Attention is modeled active reading time. Raw duration is still available in change views so you can see how far tab-open time drifts above the attention score. The attention audit on the dashboard shows that split, plus confidence when a fitted site model is in use.

Use reading time with releases to check whether a deploy changed how long people actually read, not only whether pageviews moved. Releases
